Clinical Lube™ came about after discussions with doctors and clinicians at various conferences over the years. Doctors and clinicians were looking for a simpler method for internal examinations and for catheter insertions. The product had to be extremely safe with barrier use, non-irritating, be absorbed by the skin without leaving a sticky residue, and use no animal by-products in its creation. The first ingredient is distilled water, with a pH of 7.0. This is the purest form of water available, in line with our high product standards. Water was chosen due to its polar properties, ensuring the safest base possible for contact with various types of barriers when compared to products which contain petroleum distillates.

Glycerine is added to increase the viscosity of the lubricant, and to enhance the surfactant properties. It is completely soluble in water, non-reactive with any other ingredients, and even commonly used in food products as a sweetener.

Propylene glycol is used to enhance the glide while remaining completely safe. It is naturally broken down into biologically necessary substances upon ingestion and does not affect the pH of the lubricant.

Hydroxyethyl cellulose is a gelatin-like substance which is added to give the lubricant more body and just the right amount of tack. It is completely safe to ingest, widely used in ointments and creams, and resembles a natural collagen.

Small amounts of Phenoxyethanol, as well as methyl, propyl, amyl, & butyl parahydroxybenzoates have been added to control microbial growth. They’re also commonly used as a preservative in foods.

Perhaps the most important ingredient in this revolutionary product is the Glycerate Polyhydrate. It is remarkably stable and releases its water with great difficulty; it is able to withstand prolonged exposure to air without losing its lubricating ability. Exposure of pre-lubricated enema tips, catheters and tubing for periods of up to two years have shown the lubricant to be wholly useable after that time. It adheres well to rubbers and plastics, and can be removed completely and easily by means of a damp cloth or wet sponge. It has been employed as a lubricant on pre-lubricated enema tips and rectal thermometers since 1974, and no adverse reactions have been reported.
